The services of a good editor can vastly improve your TTRPG project. But you may not be able to afford to hire an editor for your first project or projects.  As well, when you are ready to hire an editor you may not know what type of editing you need.

I have written this primer with those two things in mind. First, to give you, the non-editor, some tips on how to edit your document to the best of your ability when you can’t afford an editor’s services. And second, to give you an idea of the nine generally accepted types of editing, so when you can hire an editor you hire them for the right work.

I created this for the #TTRPGResourceJam. For close to twenty years I have freelanced as an editor for both speculative fiction and tabletop role-playing games. If you found this document useful and want to know more, or are ready to hire an editor for your project, talk to me at RenaissanceGamer.ca.

This project is PWYW, with any proceeds going to a fund to support me donating editing service to marginalized creators. If you paid anything, thank you so much for your support!
